Bo Zuidberg – Chair

Hello lovely people of Ubbo! My name is Bo Zuidberg and I will be the chair of this great association for this year. I am 20 years old, and I am currently in my third year of the History bachelor. My tasks as a Chair are very diverse, but I will try to give an overview of these tasks as clearly as I can. First and foremost, the Chair is responsible for keeping order and structure within the board. The Chair creates overview and clarity from where the other board members can thrive. To name a more explicit task; the Chair also has the tightest contacts with the study programme and the faculty, through meetings with e.g. Student assessors and University staff members. Of course, there is more to being a Chair than this, which I am delighted to talk to you about if you want to ask it! Of course, you can also approach me for other questions or just for a chat!

Eva Mijnders – Secretary

Hello lovely Ubbo Emmians! My name is Eva Mijnders, I’m a 22-year-old third year history student and I have the honour to be the secretary of the 87th board of GHD Ubbo Emmius. As a secretary, I make sure the e-mail and member administration are organised. Any questions that you may have about the association will mostly go through me. And of course, maybe the most important thing, I make minutes of all the board and member meetings. Furthermore, I keep in touch with the Friends and Reunists of the organisation. Next to my board duties I love to go to the gym or work at the University Museum of Groningen. If I am in a lazier mood, I love to play the latest video games. I hope to see you at one of our activities or hokhours I am always up for a chat!

Laurens van Mulligen – Treasurer

Hello there! My name is Laurens van Mulligen and I am the treasurer of GHD Ubbo Emmius. I am 21 years old and I was born and raised in the province, famous for Skik, Kniepperties and Hunebedden: the lovely province of Drenthe of course! I am currently a third year history student and I am interested in the political history of the fin-de-siècle. This year I will spend less time on my studies and more time on running our beautiful association together with my fellow board mates. As part of the board, I am looking forward to meet new people and enjoy the lovely activities Ubbo has. Besides Ubbo, I am involved in local politics and keen on having drinks with my friends and reading a good book.

As the guardian of Ubbo’s treasury, I keep track of all the financial transactions within Ubbo: I am responsible for the collection of the contribution and the monthly activities, but also for the spending of Ubbo’s money. My guardian tool kit therefore consists of the debit card, the ABN Amro e-identifier and the bookkeeping documentation. Still, the treasurer is fortunately not a hermit doing its paperwork. Not at all. I love drinking coffee with our members at ‘t Hok during hokhours, having contact with the committee treasurers and participating in all the activities organised by the committees – they are truly the cornerstone of our association. So come along during hokhours and join our lovely association!

Arjan Kuipers – Commissioner of External Affairs

Hello! My name is Arjan and I am 23 years old. At this moment, I am in the third year of my bachelor and this year I am the Commissioner of External Affairs of our wonderful association. This means that it is my task to represent Ubbo to the ‘outside’ as I keep the contact with our partners as well as with our brother and sister organizations and other organizations in the student life of Groningen. 

It’s also my job to make your Ubbo membership card as valuable as possible because I’m always looking for nice new deals with potential partners. 

The commissioner of External Affairs is also Ubbo’s representative in the Galant Committee. Here I’m responsible for the acquisition as well as for the general organization.
 
Next to that I will be the chair of this year’s acquisition committee and vice-chair of the career committee, I’m really excited for for that.

I’m really looking forward to see Ubbo from another perspective upcoming year! As a Commissioner of External Affairs I might not be the most visible member of the board. However I’m excited to meet and work with a lot of different people.

Ylva Axelsson – Commissioner of Internal Affairs

Hello everyone! My name is Ylva, I’m 22 years old, and I will be your Commissioner of Internal Affairs this year. I’m a third-year History student, and I moved to Groningen a little over two years ago. Before that I’ve lived in a lot of places, but originally I’m from Uppsala, Sweden (so if ABBA starts playing at a party you know where to find me). In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, reading, and spending time in nature.

More importantly, though, I’m a huge fan of all of the wonderful committees that Ubbo Emmius has to offer. Luckily for me, the Commissioner of Internal Affairs oversees 9 different committees, so chances are you’ll see a lot of me this year. Beyond joining some of the committee meetings, I will be reading all the minutes so that I can keep my board up to date on all the things the committees are up to. I’m also the main contact point between the committees and the board — and the other Internal committees. This means that I get to be in the middle of a lot of the fun, interesting, creative, and (sometimes) crazy ideas that Ubbo Emmians come up with!

With so many committees to work with and be inspired by, my days and tasks are never boring. Being Commissioner of Internal Affairs is all about making connections, and I can’t wait to connect with this association and all its wonderful members this coming year!

Liza van Domselaar – Commissioner of Public Relations

Hi everyone! My name is Liza van Domselaar and I am the Commissioner of Public Relations this year. I am 21 years old and come from the beautiful village Middelstum, close to Groningen. Currently, I am in my third year of the bachelor History. I am looking forward to my board year filled with all kinds of fun activities!

As Commissioner of Public Relations, I am responsible for the website and the socials. Next to this, I am in charge of the camera, write the newsletter and maintain the website and socials. Also, I am keeping track of the committee points system to see which committee is the most active within Ubbo.

Like previous years, the Commissioner of Public Relations will partake as Chair in the Media Committee. This is my support committee and they will help me during the year with taking pictures during activities and the making of aftermovies. I am also in the Ubdate Committee as a Vice-Chair. With this committee we write articles for our own magazine that appears four times a year.

As a Commissioner of Public Relations, you will see me at activities with the camera, where I will be making pictures of all the Ubbo Emmians. I am looking forward to this and to the board year with the five lovely people around me. I will see you during the daily hokhours!
