Conference
Bodies of Labour: Society, Sexuality and Female Agency.
This year, on the 12th of June, GHD Ubbo Emmius will once again host its annual historical conference at Labnul50 in Groningen. Doors open at 9:00 in the morning, and the event will run until around 5:00 in the afternoon. This year’s theme is Bodies of Labour: Society, Sexuality and Female Agency. The event explores how women’s bodies were seen and valued throughout history. Female agency plays a crucial role in our conference this year.
Three professors from different cities, Willemijn Ruberg, Marion Pluskota and Catherine Hakim, will deliver lectures in line with the conference theme; feminism, gender and politics. Each lecture will be followed by a short Q&A session, giving you the opportunity to engage critically with the speakers. The conference will be chaired by our own RUG professor, Karen Hollewand, and there will be time for broader discussion at the end of the day.
In addition, workshops related to the theme will be held between the lectures, such as plate smashing and more to be announced! During the conference, coffee and tea will be available, and lunch will be provided on site at Labnul50.
