On Tuesday, the 10th of June, 'Quo vadis, Aida?' (2020) will be screened in VERA!

This Bosnian movie is about the fictional character Aida, who works at the Dutch UN-basis in Srebrenica as an interpreter. This basis is flooded by 20,000 Bosnian Muslims seeking a safe haven when the Bosnian Serb army advances in July 1995. When it turns out the basis may not be the safe haven they hoped it was, Aida tries with all her might to save her husband and sons. This impactful movie shows the hours leading up to the tragedy of the genocide of Srebrenica. 

Please join us in watching this award winning movie about a black page in history. The walk in at VERA starts at 20:00 and the program starts at 20:30. First, Steven Van Bockstael will provide us with an introduction to give the movie some historical context, after which we will watch the movie! He is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University of Groningen, where he teaches in the BA and MA programs of International Relations and International Organization, as well as the Master on International Humanitarian Action. His research interests are focused on processes of conflict and development, particularly in the Global South and with special emphasis on the role of natural resources.
