Dear History student,
The History programme is looking for enthusiastic student mentors for the 2025-2026 academic year. Student mentors help welcome and guide first-year students as part of the RUG mentorship programme. Student mentors have a crucial role in the transition from high school to university by helping first-year students orient to their new educational environment. They offer practical advice based on their own experiences.
Also, student mentors have an important role in making first-year students feel welcome at the programme. They undertake a number of social activities with the first-year students, such as dinners, drinking coffee together, lunch and taking them to an activity of the study association Ubbo Emmius.
Two student mentors are responsible for a mentor group of about 20 students and they meet them several times during the first semester. You will receive a modest remuneration for the work.
Prerequisites:
You have found your niche within the History programme.
You enjoy introducing new History students to university life.
There are a number of times you must be available:
- Friday 27 June 11:00 to 13:00 for instructional meeting
- The Introduction Day itself on Wednesday 27 August from 9:00 to 16:00
- The first mentor meeting on 28 August from 9:00 to 12:00
You are willing to undertake at least some activities with the new students during the first semester
Are you interested in this position? Then send a short email with a motivation to GHD Ubbo Emmius ( ubbo@rug.nl ). Mention in your email whether you prefer a Dutch-speaking or English-speaking mentor group. You can also register as a duo. The deadline for application is Tuesday 2 June, interviews are the following week.
Kind regards
Bob and Hidde
